Nonpayment of Rent Notices - Updated 5/18/23
The ending of the National Emergency related to COVID-19
DID NOT
remove the 30 day requirement for 30 day nonpayment of rent notices. That particular section of the FEDERAL law did not have a sunset provision. Please continue to follow the 30 day termination notice requirements for nonpayment of rent situations. The Vermont Judiciary is still requiring a
Declaration of Compliance
with CARES Act documents for all nonpayment of rent cases.
There is still lingering CARES Act language that makes it prudent for landlords to send a 30 day nonpayment of rent termination notice. At this time, the Association is recommending that all nonpayment of rent termination notices be at least 30 days.
